Not even 140 character brief can stop Liquidblu

The Power of Twitter!

March 2011, Portfolio on March 7th, 2011 No Comments

The inaugural #WarwickTweetUp is taking place this Monday evening (tonight) at Lanes Bar & Restaurant, Castle Street, Warwick. Allegedly inspired by a throwaway comment by LanesWarwick and organised by @LanesWarwick and @UnderwoodWines the event has generated so much interest, excitement and plain old nosiness to see who all these Twitter people are that the invite-only event.

Leamington Spa’s Liquidblu were asked to help out with a logo for the event, and we happily obliged. Its what we do – provide design & marketing services for all sorts of businesses. Only on this occasion, the client was a virtual event that hadn’t even had its first event! The whole #warwicktweetup event has been organised over twitter with resounding support from the local twitterati and local businesses – we even had our brief for the logo sent over twitter!

Twitter Brief

“Would be great to include the Hashtag # symbol and similar font to twitter.”

Not even full use of the whole 140 characters, but we took it and ran with it anyway. Below you will see the the initial ideas of where we saw the logo heading.  Further down you will see the final versions which have now go live on all sorts of merchandise, signage and online activity.

The Event

Since Wednesday 23rd Feb after the now infamous tweet from @laneswarwick, the event has come a long way!? Not only are the guys preparing to host an evening on a Monday night for 80-90 people in a closed Bar&Restaurant, but they have our very own website www.warwicktweetup.co.uk (provided by @Surefyre & @AnnetteTaylorDe) Spangly Logo (by yours truly @liquidblu_), welcome banner (@SXWARWICK), official photographer (@karensphotos), cupcakes (@cupcakedaisyuk), sparkling reception, canapés (@UnderwoodWines), and Goodie bags (printed by @Stiffwhitecard) for guest’s full to bursting with offers and treats from members of the #warwicktweetup!

Its incredible really, when you consider this was only going to be a couple of drinks amongst a few Warwick twitter accounts. Now its become the biggest networking event of the calendar with people desperate to get a place on the guest list, which soon filled up to the capacity in no time. “People have been turned away, even our own friends!” said Todd from Underwoodwines

What has been great to see, is the networking between the attendees even before the event has started! Deals have been done and are still going on as I type this – Business cards have been printed, eyebrows have been plucked, cakes have been baked, all this on the back of generating a twitter list and businesses connecting with each other.

Why use Twitter?

If your not on Twitter yet, I suggest you leave this window open and open another one and go to www.twitter.com and get yourself signed up! I was a real skeptic when I first started using twitter nearly two years ago. I set up a personal account but it never really took off for me as I was using Facebook for keeping in contact with friends and family.  But since I setup a business account with Twitter and took a whole new approach to using a social media and followed a simple strategy with a few simple rules I put in place to using twitter, I haven’t looked back!

You will get to know people who have similar interests or are in a similar field to you, its just another version of networking but online. There are do’s and don’ts to Twitter, but common sense will play the biggest part.  It has been invaluable to the business! I have received many recommendations through the network, won freelance contracts through twitter, I even use it for idea generation. Its a great business tool, if you have strategy and you stick to it!

Well, Liquidblu is looking forward to the inaugural #warwicktweetup tonight, hopefully we’ll get to put a few faces to the names and avatars!
